A challenging but scoreable golf course surrounded by natural bodies of water

Set amongst the natural landscape, intertwined with the regions interconnecting lake system and plantations, the Lakes provides its own unique experience for golfers. Its 18 holes meander around the Sequia Major – a collection of 14 lakes and wetlands that represent one of the most important ecosystems in the region.

Hole 18

The 18th hole is going to be a really exciting closer for those playing Lakes. With the green in range in two, this is a potential eagle opportunity and I think a lot of players are going to go for it. However, with water around the left side of the green, this is a hole that can easily ruin a round, so it will be very interesting to see how those protecting their positions on the leaderboard choose to play it.

This is the first par-3 on Lakes with three large bunkers surrounding the green. The green is also a challenge with steep slopes and undulations.

Hole 5

The 5th is another bunker-filled challenge with 10 featuring throughout the hole. Being of various sizes, they come into play on both the tee shot and approaches.

After a run of difficult holes, the 10th will offer some welcome relief. One of the more straightforward holes on Lakes and one that players can really attack. There are bunkers down the left-hand side of the fairway but a solid shot will mean the pin can be attacked upon approach.

The 12th might be one of the toughest holes the professionals face this week. A par-4, measuring over 470 yards, with a narrowing fairway and tight green, accuracy is the most important factor.
